gum grafting

When gum recession progresses too far, a grafting procedure can prevent further recession and protect your oral health.

Gingival Grafting Procedure

The gum grafting procedure transplants special keratinized (hard) tissue from the palate (roof of the mouth) to the site of gum recession.

First, local freezing is applied and graft tissue is prepared. The donor tissue is removed and a dressing may be applied to promote healing.

Once the graft is stitched into place, it heals into place and protects the site from any further recession.

Preventing Gum Recession

Gum recession can be caused by periodontal disease, physical trauma, poor tooth positioning, or naturally-thin gum tissue in a certain area.
